Sailors Sweep Final Pair of Home Duals

Thursday's action inside Oppold Gymnasium was the final home dual of the season for the Columbus wrestling team, and it was senior night for the cheerleading squad. The girls has plenty to cheer on the mat, as the wrestlers put out a dominant display in front of the large home crowd. The Sailors would sweep the evenings duals, first downing Oelwein 45-36 and following it up in the nightcap defeating Tripoli 54-30. The Sailors would only lose two matches on the evening, going 10-2 in contested matches and 18-2 overall. The double dual victory would push the Sailors dual record to 10-13 on the year and, marking the first time hitting double digit dual victories since the 2015 season.

The Pin Bell was ringing early and often tonight as the Sailors benefited from pins up and down the line up. The crowd rose to their feet in appreciation for two Sailor wrestlers getting their first home victories during the dual against Tripoli. Carter Seilger at 285 pounds and Jack Sitzmann at 138 pounds both picked up victories via fall.

Coach Boleyn was pleased with his teams performance on the evening.

It is nice to end the year on a positive note with two victories. We don't match up particularly well with either of the teams tonight, there were a lot of forfeits on both sides, but the matches we were able to compete in, I thought we were aggressive and wrestled on the front foot. It will be nice to get some of the guys we have out of the line up back healthy and ready to go for post season competition.

The Sailors will be in action again on Saturday, January 22. They will travel to Traer for the North Tama tournament, the final regular season action of the year.
